During your workation period in Novello, we want to convey to you the conviviality that has always characterised those who live in the Langa: simple, genuine people, always ready to create a festive atmosphere in front of a laid table. And what better occasion than with the “Merenda Sinoira” !
What you will do
If the English for the late morning invented brunch, in Piedmont for the late afternoon the Piedmontese have invented the Merenda Sinoira since memorable times. Indeed, The “Merenda Sinoira” is the mother of the Italian aperitif and ‘sina’ in Piedmontese dialect means dinner.
This is why it was eaten by farmers and their families at the end of a long day’s work in the fields during the summer months. Those who once consumed this meal in the late afternoon may recognise that the name encapsulates the scent of the summer fields, the feeling of the sunset air on the skin, the mood of hard work, the warmth of the family and the close dialects of local community.
These will be the ingredients of the Merenda Sinoira experience that we are proposing:
– The time: following the tradition, it will start between 5 and 6 pm
– The dishes: simple, frugal and traditional Langhe dishes. Get ready for typical cold meats, cheeses, anchovies in green sauce and much more; all accompanied by several glasses of wine, especially Barbera!
– The music: strictly that of yesteryear, popular, evoking pleasant memories especially for people who grew up on the rhythm of those notes.
– The setting: the courtyard of a local winery, like the old farmyards, surrounded by the mountains and rolling hills of the area
