The Prof. Cannas textile workshop is located in the heart of upper Gallura, in the picturesque setting of the granite mountains of Aggius. The atelier preserves unaltered the ancient local textile tradition, and is the fruit of an all-female history and experience: it was established as a cooperative in 1997 and was transformed into a company in 2005 by the ten founding members. Here, using old-fashioned techniques, skilled craftswomen make Sardinian cotton and wool carpets on horizontal hand looms, decorated with typical local motifs, such as ‘date’ decorations or bands of geometric elements.

During your workation, you can meet Giovanna and Tommasina, two of Aggius’ most experienced weavers. Inside their workshop, you can learn about the history and curiosities of this ancient art while the two ladies will be at work showing you their secrets for making the colourful carpets and tapestries. Together with them, you can also try with your hand at ‘weaving’ following the traditional Aggius procedure.
